Boys Planet

As I just mentioned, ZEROBASEONE was formed through the hit survival show “Boys Planet.” A Korean reality competition, “Boys Planet,” aired on Mnet from February 2, 2023, to April 20, 2023, with the promise of creating the first 5th generation K-Pop boy group. With 98 trainees from around the world, “Boys Planet” divided the group of contestants into two groups: K-Group (Korean trainees) and G-Group (global trainees) as they underwent various evaluations to showcase their talents in singing, dancing, and rapping, with “Star Creators” voting for their favorite trainees via the Mnet Plus app.

Although Boys Planet was a follow-up to Girls Planet 999, it broadened its scope to include a wider range of international participants. As the episodes were released, “Boys Planet” continued to become a huge talking point for K-pop fans, especially thanks to the trainees’ passion, hilarious charms, and addictive stages. By the finale, the “Boys Planet” boys had hundreds of thousands of fans on the edge of their seats.

ZB1 Members

As we came to the end of the last “Boys Planet” episode, we had our ZEROBASEONE lineup, which included: Sung Han-bin, who became the group’s leader, visual, and main dancer, known for his meticulous leadership and exceptional dance skills (especially in tutting). As a former professional dancer, Sung Han-bin was one of the favorite trainees during “Boys Planet,” winning first place countless times — as such, Sung Han-bin was expected by most to win first in the finale.

However, the first place ended up going to the group’s center, Zhang Hao (making Hao the very first non-Korean trainee to win first place in a K-Pop survival show ever). The main vocalist and center, Zhang Hao, is not only fluent in Chinese and Korean, but also has a vibrant and humorous personality on and off stage that charmed fans around the world.

The next member of the group is Seok Matthew from Canada. With his sunny disposition and multilingual skills (English, Korean, and French), Matthew is ZEROBASEONE’s very own sunshine member. Plus, we have Kim Tae-rae, the exceptionally talented vocalist, who went viral during “Boys Planet” for his cover of INFINITE’s “Man in Love.”

Going viral…

Another member who went viral during “Boys Planet” was Kim Ji-woong, the group’s visual and oldest member. An idol who has debuted several times during the last decade, including as an actor, Kim Ji-woong wowed everyone with his striking visuals and powerful star power.

Furthermore, undeniably one of the most talked-about members was and is the group’s second Chinese member: Ricky. Known for his flashy fashion style, luxurious background, and strong stage presence, Ricky quickly became a fan favorite, while fellow Yuehua trainee Kim Gyu-vin also gained attention for his exceptional body proportions and sincere personality.

Onto the maknaes, we have Park Gun-wook, ZB1’s charismatic rapper and dancer, and finally, the youngest member, Han Yu-jin, who won every noona’s heart with his sweet charm and stunning dance skills. With each member bringing their own unique talents and charms to the table, ZEROBASEONE’s chemistry on stage is electric. From Park Gun-wook’s fierce energy to Tae-rae’s sweet vocals, together, these members have formed a dynamic and unforgettable group.

Zerobaseone releases

ZEROBASEONE, or ZB1, made their official debut on July 10, 2023, with their EP, “Youth in the Shade,” which had six tracks with the lead single, “In Bloom.” The release was a commercial hit, selling over two million copies (making them the first K-pop boy group to achieve “million seller” status right out of the gate) and topping the South Korean Circle Album Chart. It was also recognized as one of the best-selling albums worldwide, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

This success only grew with their second EP, “Melting Point,” which featured the dynamic lead single “Crush,” which blends drum-and-bass with jersey club rhythms. The success of “Melting Point” was extraordinary, surpassing 1.7 million pre-orders and selling over 2 million copies in only its first week. This achievement made ZEROBASEONE the first K-pop group to reach such milestones in their debut year!

Furthermore, earlier this year ZEROBASEONE released their third album, “You Had Me at HELLO,” which included the singles “Feel the Pop” and “Sweat.” With these two songs becoming some of the most successful summer songs of 2024, ZB1 have proved to be unstoppable!

ZB1 success only grew!

Continuing their impressive streak, the group has, most recently, dropped their fourth EP, “Cinema Paradise,” on August 26, 2024. The record features a total of seven tracks, with the lead single being “Good So Bad,” and the physical album includes a bunch of amazing additions like a photobook, photocard, film photo slide and slide cover case, a themed envelope, behind photo sticker, and a production note. The original album comes in two themes: Romance and SF (Science Fiction).

In addition to these themes, there is also the film version of the album which comes with an ecozen case and a tag LP holder as well as a selfie photocard, clear photocard, and a manual card. Finally, there is also the digipack version of the “Cinema Paradise” album, which comes in a stunning black and white theme and includes some unique add-ins like a film photo, photo ticket, slate card, folded poster, photocard + photocard frame, and a sticker! With these successful albums, ZEROBASEONE is cementing its place as a significant new force in K-pop, showcasing their ability to deliver high-quality music at an impressive pace.

ZB1 Merch

In addition to their albums, ZEROBASEONE has a wide variety of fan merch. For example, the group has a unique light stick with a one-of-a-kind ring and rose light (the rose being the symbol of the group and their fanbase, ZEROBASE). Furthermore, the group released their own cartoon characters, named Zeroni, in collaboration with LINE Friends. As part of the series, you can get a plushy Zeroni doll, flat cushion, keyring, and a fluffy keyring of just the Zeroni faces.

Finally, since their debut, the members of ZEROBASEONE have also partnered with the Korean makeup brand, COLORGRAM, on a variety of products including their lip tints and balms like the Tintin Dory Lip Jam and the Fruity Glass Tint. As well as other trendy items like the Bling Glitter Liner and the Pin Point Eyeshadow Palette, among many other products. As both ZEROBASEONE and Colorgram are known for their vibrant, artistic, and creative aesthetics, the partnership has been incredibly successful. With the collab, the ZEROBASEONE members have been able to expand their reach and appeal to a wider audience. From light sticks to plushy Zeroni dolls, the group has truly catered to their dedicated fanbase—there’s something for everyone!
