Careers & History (Pre-debut ~ 2025)

Pre-debut

Zerobaseone was formed through Mnet’s global survival show Boys Planet, which aired from February 2 to April 20, 2023. The show featured 98 contestants from countries such as South Korea, China, Japan, the U.S., Canada, Thailand, and Vietnam, all competing for a chance to debut in a new K-pop boy group. In the live finale on April 20, 2023, the top nine trainees were chosen to form Zerobaseone (ZB1), who will promote together for about two and a half years.

Before joining Boys Planet, some members already had experience in the entertainment industry. Kim Ji-woong was a former member of INX and had acted in web dramas like Kissable Lips and Roommates of Poongduck 304. Kim Tae-rae appeared on the singing show Top 10 Student in 2020, and Park Gun-wook competed in the 2021 survival show Wild Idol, though he didn’t make it into the final group, TAN.

2023

In April 2023, WakeOne announced that Zerobaseone (ZB1) was preparing to debut later that year. After performing at KCON Japan 2023, the group released a teaser video called Youth in Shade, and their debut was confirmed for July 2023.

Their pre-debut reality show Camp Zerobaseone aired in June, showing their bond as a team. Their first album, Youth in the Shade, broke records with over one million pre-orders before release. ZB1 officially debuted on July 10, 2023, with the title track “In Bloom.” Just eight days later, they won their first music show award on The Show. The group also held their first fan concert on August 15 at Gocheok Sky Dome, performing for 18,000 fans. Their debut album sold over 2 million copies, setting a new record for a K-pop debut.

Zerobaseone continued their success with their second album, Melting Point, released on November 6, 2023. It surpassed 1.7 million pre-orders and sold over 2 million copies in its first week, making them the first K-pop group to do so in their debut year. Later, on November 29, 2023, it was announced that ZB1 would make their Japanese debut under Lapone Entertainment on March 20, 2024, along with a fan meeting in Japan.
